Which beans are particularly suitable for making iced coffee?

In this context, wet-processed coffee varieties, an extremely water-intensive type of coffee processing, from various African countries such as Tanzania, Ethiopia or Kenya are particularly suitable. They have a lively, pleasant acidity, of course only if they are of the right quality, so that they also taste delicious when cold.

How can you prepare a classic iced coffee yourself?

The basis of the production of a classic iced coffee is no different from a normal coffee. Here is a very simple recipe for 1 glass with the following ingredients :

  • 200 ml coffee (it is best to use freshly ground espresso beans )
  • Sugar and milk as desired
  • 1 to 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • Whipped cream, also according to taste
  • To refine as a topping chocolate sprinkles, cocoa powder, brittle or syrup

Whether the coffee with a fully automatic, by hand filter, with the Bialetti Moka pot, using a French press or Aeropress , depending on your home coffee equipment you can prepare this variety in your own four walls. In any case, it is best to always use freshly ground beans.
This is how you can prepare it:
Stir the sugar into the still warm coffee and let the coffee cool down completely before pouring it into the glass. When it reaches room temperature, put it in the freezer for about an hour. Now put the vanilla ice cream in the glass and pour the ice-cold coffee over it, put the “icing” on top and give the whole thing the finishing touch with the desired topping. Now you can feast on a really classic iced coffee!

Why is the ice cream parlor actually called ice cream parlor?

Certainly not many of you have the opportunity to make the ice cream that traditionally belongs in the iced coffee yourself. In the 1950s, iced coffee was usually only served in an ice cream parlor. But why don’t they say “ice cream shop”, and call this location “ice cream parlor”? Some people believe that the word can be traced back to the tube-like shutters, which, with their narrow cut, were reminiscent of a hallway.
